Faculty of Music Alumni Orchestra
31 August 2009

A note from Mark Skazinetsky, one of our violin faculty members, to alumni:

Dear Alumni,

I am writing to alumni of the Faculty of Music to canvass your interest in participating in a new orchestra.

As you are undoubtedly aware, there are many wonderful community orchestras in and around Toronto. There is however no group that brings together advanced players who play for the love of music. The orchestra I hope to create will be based in Toronto, and should be of interest to advanced players who are graduates of the Faculty, or who enjoy a similar level of training, who are not pursuing a professional career in music.

Undertakings of this sort, are, as I am sure you are aware, very constrained by financial limitations. I would expect that in the first year, principle costs will be for performance and rehearsal venues, music rental, as well as a modest amount for administration and advertising. There will be no paid principals, and I hope to consider drawing soloists from the ranks of the orchestra.

It is my objective to present a repertoire that is both challenging to the orchestra, and appealing to a musically discerning audience as well. I invite suggestions as to programming and also an expression of your interest in participating in this orchestra.

Please reply to me at alumni.orchestra@gmail.com.

Warmest Regards,

Mark Skazinetsky
