EARLY MUSIC

Schola Cantorum and the Theatre of Early Music
Daniel Taylor, conductor
Present
Schütz: Musikalische Exequien

Canadian countertenor Daniel Taylor founded the University of Toronto Schola Cantorum in 2012 with a focus on performing the often-neglected yet magnificent sacred and secular music from before 1750. In this concert, the ensemble performs Heinrich Schütz' three-movement Musikalische Exequien (Musical Funeral Rites) of 1635, as well as the remarkable Buxtehude motet Jesu Meines Lebens Leben (recorded on disc by the ensemble last spring), supported by the gilded sounds of original period-instruments. Join us for an evening of reflection and hope.
