Prior to his cross-appointment to the Faculty of Music and the Centre for Medieval Studies at the University of Toronto, Andrew Hughes taught at Queen's University (Belfast), University of Illinois and the University of North Carolina. He is a specialist in medieval liturgy, plainsong and other music, and liturgical manuscripts, and is author of numerous articles and books, including Medieval Music : The Sixth Liberal Art (1974), Medieval Manuscripts for Mass and Office: A Guide to Their Organization and Terminology (1982), Late Medieval Liturgical Offices: Resources for Electronic Research (1994). He is a Fellow of the Mediaeval Academy of America and Trinity College (Toronto), and Visiting Fellow of Corpus Christi College (Cambridge). In 1992, he received the prestigious appointment of University Professor from the University of Toronto. Professor Hughes is presently preparing a narrative monograph on the largest unexplored repertory of European music: newly composed medieval liturgical offices. |
