Carl Morey

Carl Morey began teaching at Wayne State University in Detroit in 1962, and was head of the Music Department at the University of Windsor (1964-70). At Toronto he was Dean of the Faculty of Music (1984-90) and from 1991 until retirement in 2000 he occupied the Jean A. Chalmers Chair in Canadian Music. His principal interests are in opera, especially of the 17th and 18th century, and in the history of musical life in Canada. Professor Morey has published extensively in a variety of journals, magazines, encyclopedias and anthologies, and has been a frequent contributor to musical broadcasts on the CBC. He has served on numerous local and national boards and committees. Most recently he has been the editor of the works of Glenn Gould (Mainz: Schott Musik,) and author of Music in Canada: A Research and Information Guide (New York: Garland Publishing, 1997) and, with Professor Ezra Schabas, Opera Viva:Canadian Opera Company, The First Fifty Years (Toronto: Dundurn Press, 2000).
