Solo recitalist, accompanist and chamber musician, William Aide, former Head of the Keyboard Division at the University of Toronto, received his musical degrees from the University of Toronto and the Juilliard School of Music, where his principal teachers were Alberto Guerrero and Beveridge Webster. Professor Aide has recorded the twenty-four Chopin études, the Brahms cello sonatas with Ofra Harnoy, and the complete Suzuki piano method repertoire. A proponent of Canadian music, he has performed in some thirty premieres of Canadian works, including five piano concertos. He has recorded with the CBC and BBC, and concertized throughout Canada, the United States and the former Soviet Union. In 1993 and 1995 he served as artist-in-residence at the Aix-en-Provence Conservatory of Music. More recently he has written reviews and feature articles on music for the Globe and Mail. His memoir, Starting from Porcupine, is published by Oberon Press. |
