John S. M. Mayo

John Mayo taught in London (U.K.) schools before coming to Canada in 1967. He has taught at the University of Toronto since 1976. His principal research interests include twentieth-century music, Baroque music with particular emphasis on the music of Handel, and the use of methods derived from literary and cultural theory in the study of music. He has contributed articles to the Handel Jahrbuch, The University of Toronto Quarterly, The Encyclopaedia of Music in Canada, and Musik in Geschichte und Gegenwart (second edition). He is currently completing a monograph on the music of John Beckwith and an introductory music text for students in visual and performing arts programmes.
