Miah Im, a native of Winnipeg, Manitoba, is currently the principal coach and conductor for the University of Toronto Opera School. Prior to joining the faculty at the University of Toronto, Ms. Im was formerly the Music Director of the Maryland Opera Studio at the University of Maryland where she co-ran the program with Artistic Director, Leon Major.

She has been on the music staff at the Juilliard School and is currently on the music staff at the Los Angeles Opera, the Opera Theatre of Saint Louis, Wolf Trap Opera and CO-SI, the Centre for Opera Studies in Italy.

Most recently for the Opera School, Ms. Im conducted Don Giovanni, La Mondo della Luna, and Il Segreto Matrimonio. Ms. Im participated at the Ravinia Festival last summer where she was the pianist for Le Nozze di Figaro and Cosi fan tutte with an all-star cast that included Frederica von Stade, Ana Maria Martinez, John Relyea, and Richard Stilwell. As a current faculty member at the Aspen Music Festival and School, Ms. Im teaches, performs, conducts, and serves as principal coach and chorus master for their opera productions. Highlights include La Traviata, The Cunning Little Vixen, La Bohème, Rigoletto, Lucia di Lammermoor, Il Trittico and Béatrice and Bénédict. Under the auspices of the Chicago Symphony, Ms. Im performed as pianist and harpsichordist for Viktor Ullmann’s Der Kaiser von Atlantis under the baton of James Conlon. She has performed with the Houston Grand Opera, The Los Angeles Philharmonic, The St. Louis Symphony and the New World Symphony.

Ms. Im was the inaugural recipient of the Marilyn Horne Foundation Award for Excellence in Vocal Accompanying. Through the foundation, she was selected as a recitalist on the prestigious "On Wings of Song" recital series at the Kosciuszko Foundation, marking her New York City debut and was a featured artist on the Foundation’s Gala Concert presented at Lincoln Center. Her performances have been featured on WQXR in New York City, NPR and on the CBC radio. Excerpts of her performances have also been presented on CBS Sunday Morning. In addition, Ms. Im also was also appointed the youngest Music Director of the San Diego Opera Young Artists Ensemble Program. Ms. Im has worked with esteemed conductors such as Julius Rudel, James Conlon, George Manahan, Jahja Ling, Stephen Lord, Eduardo Müller, Patrick Summers, David Robertson and Miguel Harth-Bedoya.

Recent engagements include conducting Il Barbiere di Siviglia at the University of Maryland, head coach and assistant conductor for Le Donne Curiose at Wolf Trap Opera, and a world premiere by the Los Angeles Master Chorale and violin soloist Jennifer Koh with a libretto based on the poetry of her late father. Upcoming engagements include Das klagende Lied at the Ravinia Festival and conductor for Cosi fan Tutte in the spring of 2012.
