After temporary teaching appointments at the Eastman School of Music and the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana, Mary Ann Parker joined the Faculty in 1982. She is particularly interested in the music of Handel and Italian opera and oratorio of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries.

She is the author of G.F. Handel: A Guide to Research (2nd ed., 2005) and editor of Eighteenth-Century Music in Theory and Practice: Essays in Honor of Alfred Mann (1994). Recent articles and reviews have appeared in The Journal of the American Musicological Society, Music & Letters and The University of Toronto Quarterly. Earlier articles and reviews appeared in the Händel-Jahrbuch, Göttinger Händel-Beiträge, JAMS, MLA Notes, The American Choral Review, and The New Grove Dictionary of Opera.

With Professor Domenico Pietropaolo, Chair of the Department of Italian Studies at the University of Toronto, she is currently completing a book on Italian opera and oratorio librettos of the Baroque period.
