Anita McAlister received a B Mus from the University of Toronto and a MMus from the University of Western Ontario . An active freelancer in the Toronto area, Anita performs regularly with the Toronto Symphony, the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony, the Esprit Orchestra, Soundstreams, the Mississauga Philharmonic, the Bach Consort and as Principal Trumpet of the Toronto Philharmonia. As a member of the Hannaford Street Silver Band, Anita can be heard on all of their recordings. Anita has worked with the National Ballet Orchestra, the Canadian Opera Company Orchestra, has toured as Principal Trumpet of the Royal Winnipeg Ballet Orchestra, was Principal Trumpet for the Kitchener/Waterloo run of Phantom of the Opera, and was a member of the Fanfare Trumpets and Theatre Orchestra at the Stratford Festival.
Anita has taught at the Scarborough Board of Education Music Camp, Interprovincial Music Camp, the Mount Allison Summer Music Program, and is a faculty member at National Music Camp. An active adjudicator and clinician, Anita has taught for the Royal Conservatory and has worked with its Examination Department to revise the trumpet syllabus and record for the Sound Advice Program. Anita is currently on faculty at the University of Toronto and at Wilfrid Laurier University, and is now the Director of the Hannaford Youth Education Program, conducting the Hannaford Junior and Community Brass Bands. |
