Carol Matthews

PhD (CUNY)

Carol L. Matthews is a composer and music educator who has recently moved to Canada from the US. She received her PhD in composition from City University of New York, studying with Thea Musgrave and Charles Dodge. She has taught at the University of Oregon, Hunter College and Baruch College in New York City, the University of Wisconsin at Wausau and Marshfield, and Boise State University, Boise, Idaho. Her works include a variety of genres - instrumental, vocal, large ensembles and chamber music - and have been performed across the US and Canada. She has written almost entirely to commission, most recently from the Mississauga Festival Choir, The Queensmen of Toronto, and the Timothy Eaton Memorial Orchestra. She is currently teaching part time at the University of Toronto and teaching composition privately.
