Jeffrey Hall Jeffrey Hall, trombone

Jeffrey Hall is currently Bass Trombonist of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, a position he has held since 1994. Prior to joining the TSO, Jeff held the same position with l’Orchestre symphonique de Québec.

Born in Ottawa, Jeff received his musical training at McGill University where he obtained a Bachelor of Music with High Distinction in Bass Trombone Performance. He then pursued graduate studies at New England Conservatory of Music. Jeff’s principal teachers include Ted Griffith, Douglas Yeo and Richard Erb.

An alumnus of the National Youth Orchestra of Canada, Jeff was also awarded a fellowship by the prestigious Tanglewood Music Centre.

Jeff has many years experience teaching both bass and tenor trombonists. He has given masterclasses in universities and high schools across Canada and is instructor of bass trombone at the Glenn Gould School of the Royal Conservatory of Music. His former students perform with symphony orchestras, military bands and hold teaching positions in Canada and the United States.

As a member of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, Jeff can be heard on recordings under the direction of Sir Andrew Davis, Jukka-Pekka Saraste, and Peter Oundjian. Jeff has recorded with the Canadian Brass, toured with The Three Tenors and performed on numerous film scores as well as commercials for television and radio.

While passionate about performing and teaching, Jeff is also an experienced home renovator and is currently completing the educational and practical requirements in order to be recognized as a Registered Home Inspector in the province of Ontario.
