Marina Geringas graduated from the Latvian State Conservatory in Riga and completed her graduate studies the Gnessin Pedagogical Institute in Moscow. Between 1964 and 1973, she taught in Riga, at the Emils Darzins Special Music School for Gifted Children, the Medins Music College, and the Latvian State Conservatory.
In 1975 she immigrated to Toronto, and taught privately until 1978, when she joined the faculty of the Royal Conservatory of Music. In 1980, she began teaching at the Faculty of Music, University of Toronto. She has been teaching seminars on piano pedagogy since 1982, primarily in Ontario, but also in the United States, Hong Kong and Thailand. Since 1987, she has taught Piano Teaching Methods at the University of Toronto.
Many of her students have continued their education at the Julliard School of Music, Curtis Institute of Music and Yale University. Many have also performed with leading Canadian orchestras and participated in international piano festivals. Her former students include Naida Cole, Andrew Burashko, Eric Zivian and Sonia Chan. |
