David Young

Jazz Bass, Ensembles

email: lewis-young@sympatico.ca

Bassist Dave Young is a national treasure in his native Canada with an impressively rich and diverse musical history.  He is educated as both a jazz and classical player.  As classical artist, he was the Principal Bassist for a number of years with the Edmonton and Winnipeg Symphonies as well as with the Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra.  As a jazz artist, he is a chameleon-like bassist, who often shines brightest in collaborative efforts with such jazzmen as Oscar Peterson, Clark Terry, Zoot Simms, Joe Williams, Oliver Jones, Rob McConnell, Kenny Burrell, Hank Jones, Nat Adderley, James Moody, Cedar Walton, and Peter Appleyard.

Dave received the 1993 Juno Award for “Best Mainstream Jazz Recording” for Fables and Dreams, several Jazz Report Awards including “Acoustic Bassist of the Year” in 1996, 1997 and 1998, and “Musician of the Year” in 1997 and 1998.  He was selected “Bassist of the Year” in 2003 and 2004 by the National Jazz Awards.
