Douglas Stewart, a Winnipeg native, is currently Principal Flute in the Canadian Opera Company Orchestra. As the recipient of numerous Canada Council grants and Chalmers Awards, he has studied with such prestigious flutists as Albert Horch, Nick Fiore, Robert Aitken, Marcel Moyse, James Galway, Jean-Pierre Rampal, Julius Baker and Samuel Baron. A First Prize Winner at the 1973 CBC Talent Festival, Douglas has appeared as soloist with orchestras across Canada. He has been a Faculty member at the University of Toronto for twenty years and has been a visiting professor at the Freiburg Hochschule of Music in Germany. In addition to his post with the Canadian Opera Company, Douglas is Principal Flute with the Esprit Orchestra, and has opened the Toronto productions of Miss Saigon, Les Miserables, and Beauty and the Beast |
