Joan Watson is currently Principal Horn of the award winning Canadian Opera Orchestra and former Associate Principal Horn of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra from 1988- 2002. She is much sought after as a soloist with engagements across Canada this season. As a Yamaha clinician she is also busy with masterclasses and lectures on helping young musicians make decisions on their career choices including auditions, the mind-body connection and clarification of goals. Joan is one of the founding members of the prestigious True North Brass who are currently adding a 4th CD to their impressive collection of Canadian music and arrangements. She has been the inspiration for a number of "horn features" in the TNB repertoire.
Joan's solo CD, titled Songs My Mother Taught Me, was released in 1998. It is a virtuoso crossover album of tunes by Canada's top writers. Joan's career has seen her cross the country. Principal horn of the Victoria Symphony, Pacific Opera Orchestra, Vancouver Opera Orchestra, Espit Orchestra, New Music Concerts, Canadian premiere of the Ligeti Horn Trio for Array Music and frequent solo and chamber musician featured on CBC, soloist at the International Women's Brass Conference, International Horn Society Summit in Banff, International Brass Quintet Symposium in Atlanta, Georgia and numerous Universities across the US and Canada. |
