Short term loan (Course reserve)

2-hour loans borrowed one hour before closing time are due back one hour after opening the next day.

Renewals

Unless placed on hold by another reader, books may be renewed once in person, online using the My Account feature in the catalogue, or by telephone (416.978.3734 Monday-Friday only, from 8.30 am - 11 am, or after 5 pm).   After the first 2 weeks of the loan period, books may be recalled for another patron.  Recalled material will be fined at $2.00 per day.

Holds

When the item you need is checked out, you can ask for a hold. This means that we won't allow the current borrower to renew the book and, when it is returned, the owning library will hold it at their circulation desk for you to pick up there. If your library record contains your email address, you'll be notified when the book is returned. You may place holds on a book that is charged out, so that it will not be renewed, or will be recalled after 2 weeks of the initial loan period has passed, and will be made available to you when it is returned.  Requests cannot be placed on Short Term Loan items.

To request a hold directly from the catalogue:

  • In the catalogue, click on the Details button for the item you need
  • On the Item Information page, click on Request Item and follow the instructions given

Late Fines and Lost Book Charges

Fines are charged at the rate of $.50 per day per book; no fines are charged if a book is returned one day overdue. Fines for Short Term Loan materials are $.50/ hour. No fines are charged if a book is returned within 15 minutes after the time due. Fines for recalled books are $2.00/day per book. Library privileges are withheld when the limit of $25.00 is reached.

Lost library books are subject to a $145.00 replacement charge. The library reserves the right to charge fines in addition to the replacement cost.
