Course Reserve

To ensure that Library materials in heavy demand are available to students when they need them, instructors can place items for course use on reserve at the Circulation Desk. Reserve items may include books, scores, and sound and video recordings, and personal copies of items not held in the Library collection. Please note that some items such as reference books and books from other campus libraries will not be placed on reserve.

Faculty : To add materials to the course reserve shelves, please prepare a list Course Reserve List PDF form (63.7 KB) and leave the materials, with the list, at the Desk for the attention of Jan MacLean, allowing 48 hours for the items to be readied for student use.  You may check out reserve items from the library for classroom teaching.   For a class longer than 2 hours, please alert the desk person to adjust the default loan period before you borrow items.

Students : Search the Library Catalogue by course number or instructor's name to locate items on reserve, or check the red binder on the circulation desk.

Faculty members may designate another person (for example, a TA or a family member) to be authorized to check out materials as a "proxy" in the faculty member's name. Please provide a dated, signed letter to Jan MacLean, Circulation Supervisor, authorizing the "proxy" to borrow materials, using your card. The faculty member is responsible for anything checked out by the authorized borrower.

Loan periods

  • The loan period is usually 2 hours, and only one item, or complementary score and recording may be signed out.
  • Most reserve books and scores can circulate overnight, and can be charged out during the last hour the library is open, but must be returned during the first hour the library opens the next day.
  • Personal copies, photocopies and some other non-circulating items are for use in the library only.
  • Fines are $.50/hour
