The composition faculty offers both a major and a minor in Music Composition within the B.Mus. program. Students interested in pursuing these options must audition at the end of their first year of study. Those selected to continue receive weekly private instruction, and all are expected to participate in the monthly Composer's Forum. The Faculty of Music also hosts several guest composers each year. Student works are selected for reading by the Contemporary Music Ensemble and the University of Toronto Symphony Orchestra; and each year two students are chosen to participate in a workshop of their operatic scenes. Ample opportunities are available for performance of student works on the student composer series and at the annual New Music Festival.
The Faculty of Music offers excellent facilities - the library , the electro-acoustic studio , and the computer laboratory - in support of its composition programs.
