July 8-11, 2014

 

The University of Toronto Jazz Studies department invites you to join us in our 3rd Annual Jazz Downtown Workshop!  Gain small group jazz experience while you immerse yourself in the jazz idiom this summer.  Study and play in the heart of the city with our creative professional faculty, and recent graduates, many of whom are the top young players on the jazz scene today, as well as current students from the University of Toronto Jazz Studies Program.  Experience the University of Toronto’s continuing tradition of excellence in Jazz performance, while meeting other young creative jazz students from across the city and beyond in a challenging and rewarding summer program.

Gain insight into the process of preparing for post secondary jazz programs through interaction with current and recent graduates of the University of Toronto Jazz Studies Program – learn about and begin to develop the skills University programs are looking for in successful applicants.

Who Should Apply? This program is targeted to High school students between the ages of 14-19 who have at least two years of experience on their instrument (including voice).

Daily Program:

The Jazz Downtown Workshop runs from 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM, July 8 - 11, 2014.  Common sessions and clinics will include jazz materials, theory, listening/ear training, improvisation, and specific instrumental instruction of value to all levels of students.  Two daily combo sessions offer students small group instruction with the professional faculty, and faculty performances allow the opportunity to experience high-level performance up close each day.  The workshop will finish with an informal student concert on Friday afternoon that is open to friends and family.


Registration Deadline:

June 6, 2014
Both the Registration form and the payment must be submitted by this date.

Program Fees:
$275 (by June 6th)
$325 – Late Registration Fee (between June 6th – 20th)
No guarantee that late comers can be accommodated

Registration:

Under 18:
A parent or guardian must complete the Registration form by printing all information required and, must read, sign and submit the attached informed consent agreement. Incomplete forms will not be processed.

Over 18:
Participants over the age of 18 must read, sign and submit the Registration Form and the informed consent agreement, but will not require parent or guardian signatures.

Registration is on a first come, first served basis. We anticipate that the workshop will fill quickly. We, however, reserve the right to cancel the workshop if minimum enrollment is not met.

Payment & Refund:
Payment must accompany the Registration form.
($275 before June 3, 2013 or $325 between June 6 and June 20, 2014)
Payment may be made by bank draft, money order or cash (only if you are paying in person). 
Payment must be made payable to: Faculty of Music, University of Toronto.

Cancellation Policy: Registration fees are refundable in full until the 20th of June; regardless of the reason, we are unable to grant refunds beyond this date.
