Auditions will be held during Registration Week in the Edward Johnson Building.
At the audition, you will be asked to:
- Play three pieces at a Grade 8 level (RCM) or higher from different stylistic periods. It is your responsibility to provide an accompanist, if needed.
- Sight-read/sight sing a short piece in the treble clef, sing or play back a short melody, and identify intervals, chords and cadences.
- Demonstrate knowledge of and interest in music, motivation for pursuing music study, and an ability to express ideas clearly.
Theory Requirements
You must have completed RCM Grade 2 Rudiments and Grade 3 Harmony (or an acceptable equivalent). You will not be permitted to audition if you have not established that you have met the theory requirements.
Please send applicable documents (ie. RCM transcripts) before August 19 with your Student Profile (the 2012-2013 profile will be available in June 2012).
If you do not have transcripts, you may write an Entrance Theory Exam set by the Faculty of Music. It is your responsibility to call the Admissions Officer at (416) 978-3741 to set up a time to write this exam.
Ensemble option requirements
Students interested in pursuing the Major / Specialist with the Ensemble option will have an additional audition during Registration Week in the Edward Johnson Building . The ensemble audition will be 5-10 minutes long.
Students are required to download the excerpts relevant to their instrument; the excerpts will be available in July.
