Specialist Program

Core courses (“Introduction to Music & Society”, “Historical Surveys I & II”), Electives (various topics drawn from a list that changes every year – see below) and Topics (an in-depth look at each of the six periods of Western art music history plus ethnomusicology) are supplemented by Theory courses (up to and including one half course at the 300+ level) and one language course to a total of 10 credits. The remaining credits needed to satisfy the B.A. are drawn from other disciplines within Arts & Science (to a total of 20 credits).

Specialist with Ensemble Option program

The Specialist Program with Ensemble Option requires four of the seven Topics courses and adds two full courses of Vocal and Instrumental Ensembles (the Faculty of Music’s choral, orchestral and concert band ensembles) to a total of 10.5 credits. The remaining credits needed to satisfy the B.A. are drawn from other disciplines within Arts & Science (to a total of 20 credits).
