Accompaniment Fees

Classical Applicants
All classical applicants, with the exception of Accordion, Guitar, Harp, Organ, Percussion and Piano, require an accompanist. If you do not have your own, you may contact the Faculty of Music at undergrad.music@utoronto.ca to have a list of potential accompanists sent to you via email. You will be responsible for the cost of the accompanist's service. Please note that due to the large number of applications we receive, we are unable to accommodate requests to change audition dates due to the unavailability of your regular accompanist. If your regular accompanist is not available on your assigned audition date, please contact us to request the potential accompanists list.

Jazz Applicants
All Jazz applicants who are invited to audition in person must play with a live rhythm section and will be responsible for the cost of their accompaniment. The Faculty of Music will provide live rhythm section accompaniment for all of the required pieces at an extra cost. It is highly recommended that all Jazz applicants use this service. Information regarding costs for this service will be sent out with the audition notices. There is no need to pre-arrange this service. The live rhythm section will be available on all audition dates. Alternatively, applicants may arrange for and pay for their own rhythm section. Please note that, due to the large number of applications we receive, we are unable to accommodate requests to change audition dates due to the unavailability of your rhythm section.

Special Note Regarding Auditions:
Auditions take place in February and March.  The Undergraduate Audition schedule  is posted in our Admission Requirements section, under Audition/Interview. If you are aware of any dates in the audition period that you will not be able to audition, you will be able to indicate those on your supplementary Music Questionnaire application.  In addition, you are given the opportunity to indicate which dates you would prefer to audition.  We will try our best to accommodate your requests, however applicants should be prepared to audition at any time during the audition period .  If you are applying to multiple schools, it is strongly suggested that you provide different dates of availability to different schools to avoid scheduling conflicts.  Applicants are encouraged to apply early and send in the hard copy of the Music Questionnaire as early as possible to increase their chances of receiving a preferred audition date.  Once your audition has been set, it will not be possible to reschedule your audition except under extenuating documented circumstances, such as illness .  Please note that due to the large numbers of applications we receive, we are unable to accommodate requests to change audition dates due to the unavailability of your regular accompanist.

If you require an accommodation due to a disability for your audition, please contact Jennifer Panasiuk at undergrad.music@utoronto.ca by January 15, 2014.
