Jazz Pre-Screening DVD and Profile
All applicants to the Jazz Performance Program must submit a DVD for pre-screening.  See repertoire requirements below:

All instruments except Jazz Voice and Jazz Drums:
Two versions of Billie's Bounce by Charlie Parker:
1.  VERSION ONE:  Accompanied by a rhythm section (live, or play-along recording), play Billie's Bounce in F Major; quarter note = approx. 174 Include melody and 2-3 choruses or improvised solo.  Piano and Guitar should also comp. chords, bassists should walk.
2.  VERSION TWO: Play Billie's Bounce, unaccompanied in any key at any tempo.  Include melody and one chorus of improvised solo.

Jazz Vocalists:
One version of Autumn Leaves, music by Joseph Kosma; English lyrics by Johnny Mercer
1.  With a rhythm section (live, or play-along recording), sing a version of Autumn Leaves in the key of your choice; quarter note=approx. 174. 
The performance should contain two complete choruses of the song.    
    a.  The first chorus should be strictly melody
    b.  The second chorus should incorporate improvisation

Jazz Drummers:
With live (bass, piano and/or guitar), or play-along recording accompaniment, play Blue Bossa by Kenny Dorham and Billie's Bounce by Charlie Parker.
1.  Play Blue Bossa; quarter note = approx. 160.  Include at least one solo chorus.
2.  Play Billie's Bounce; quarter note=approx. 174.  Include at least one solo chorus.


*For the purposes of the Jazz Pre-Screening DVD only, applicants may play with live accompaniment (a rhythm section) or may use a 'play along' recording.

Please note that if you are applying to more than one program and one of the programs is Jazz, you must submit the DVD by the deadline in order to be considered for the Jazz program.

Deadline for receipt of the Jazz Pre-Screening DVD, Audition/Interview fee and Jazz Applicant Pre-Screening Profile is January 16, 2012.   The Jazz Pre-Screening Deadline has been extended to Friday January 20th.  All Pre-Screening materials must reach the Faculty of Music by 5pm on Friday January 20th.
Successful applicants will be invited to audition in person.  Auditions will take place in February and March.
