The Karen Kieser Prize is awarded annually to a graduate student in composition. This year’s concert features Tyler Versluis’s 2017 prize-winning work 3 Unuttered Miracles for accordion and percussion performed by Michael Bridge and Michael Murphy. Past prize winners are also on the program: Riho Maimets’ Three Movements for Marimba, performed by Jonny Smith and Andrew Staniland's Orion Constellation Theory, performed by Xuanyu (Carol) Wang. In addition, Cecilia Lee will perform Pass-foot by Tyler Versluis.
The Cecilia String Quartet will perform Nicole Lizée’s Isabella Blow at Somerset House, as well as the winning student piece of the 2017 University of Toronto String Quartet Composition Competition: String Quartet No. 1 "Boguslawów " by Tyler Versluis.
