Congratulations to recent grads Eugene Astapov, Roydon Tse, Bekah Simms, Liam Ritz and Stephanie Orlando, and current master's student Tristan Zaba who cleaned up at this year's SOCAN Foundation Awards for Young Composers! These six U of T Music composers appeared as finalists across five of six categories, a testament to their talent and the strength of the Faculty of Music's composition program. Eugene Astapov, who graduated in 2018 with a Doctor of Musical Arts in Composition, took home the John Weinzweig Grand Prize for the best overall work for Hear My Voice.

SOCAN's Young Composers Awards recognize Canadian composers 30 years of age or under, for original concert-music. Read the full story in SOCAN Magazine.
